In what turned out to be one of the weirdest things I've ever experienced, Jet performed in the middle of times square last night in honor of the opening of the "Pontiac Garage." No, I have no idea what that means.
I have some people visiting from the big OH; only in town for Oasis (and coincidentally Jet as well) and we were eating a nice, filling meal at the Olive Garden only to come out and find police barricades everywhere. There were a good deal of video cameras as well, so we decided to stick around for a little while. A little prodding (and an australian guy with a 'tude) led us to the conclusion that Jet was performing at 10, and that it had something to do with Pontiac. Turns out it had something to do with Jimmy Kimmel, too, as he opened the mini performance and later informed the crowd that it would be shown on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Well, much later than expected, some kind of Pontiac convertible was unveiled and Jet performed 3 songs. They were so high that the only way you could see them was to look at the screen; although with a little straining, we could see the guitar player bopping his head in between the huge steel bars. They started off with "Cold Hard Bitch" and ended with "Are You Gonna Be My Girl." I have no idea what the middle one was, but you know, I'm not a huge Jet fan. In the end they released confetti and we all wandered back to campus still confused about what the hell the Pontiac Garage was, and why Jet was performing for it 100 feet in the air.
But that didn't stop us from taking pictures:
